A new donation program connects Sisters at St. Joseph Residence (SJR) with the food and clothing bank in the South Center neighborhood of Seattle.
The service project is called “My Grocery Bag” and features Sisters at SJR taking bulk dried food items and separating them into smaller grocery bags – to streamline distributions to individuals and families in need.

St. Joseph Residence Activities Coordinator Lisa Kumar was inspired to create the project while visiting Providence Regina House’s website and seeing that “breaking down bulk food items” was a requested area of need.
The Sisters assembled 45 grocery bags during their first session, in June. The bags were picked up by the food coordinator for Regina House and quickly distributed in the community. Several Sisters of St. Dominic of Tacoma who reside at SJR also participated in the project.
The project will continue every two months, alongside SJR’s monthly sandwich-making sessions.
