Spokane provincial staff tours Transitions

The Provincial Administration staff in Spokane initiated a little something different in their annual staff retreat this year. Spokane staff and Leadership Team members toured the ministries of Transitions, an intercommunity project co-sponsored by four communities of women religious.

The ministries include:

  • EduCare, specialized low-cost childcare for infant to school-aged children;
  • Miryam’s House, temporary housing with a homelike environment for women recovering from lives in crisis;
  • Transitional Living Center (TLC), transitional housing and support services for homeless women and children;
  • Women’s Hearth, a safe, welcoming day center for women.

About 100 women a day spend time at Women’s Hearth, socializing, playing games, doing art projects and enjoying the peace, serenity and companionship that it offers.

Judging from the warm smiles all around, like the one on the face of Karen Lauby, provincial secretary, the day was a hit.

Volunteers often stop by Women’s Hearth to prepare a meal for the women there. This day’s fare was spaghetti.

Gift baskets were prepared by the Provincial Administration staff and Leadership Team members for residents of Miryam’s House. They ended their day with fellowship and fun at a festive lunch.
